In June the Cité de l’espace celebrated its 25th anniversary by doing what it does best: talking about space with the general public! The month-long anniversary celebration kicked off with an exceptional event: on Friday June 3rd, Thomas Pesquet, the French European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut met with 5000 visitors at the Cité de l’espace. The French astronaut chose the Cité de l’espace for one of his first major public events since his return to Earth in november 2021.

This was followed by another emotional gathering on June 9th for all 150 employees of the Semeccel and their families who met to celebrate their company’s 25th anniversary. The astronaut Jean-Loup Chrétien, amicably attended the celebration. It was also an opportunity to celebrate the careers of 29 Cité de l’espace employees who have been working for the organization for more than 20 years, as well as to wish the very best to two very special employees who have just retired!

The month of festivities finished on June 25th with an exceptional day long event, free of charge and open to all, during which visitors were invited to reflect on the next 25 years of space. 15 000 people participated on the occasion of this event. True to its calling of bringing together the general public and those who are involved in space, the Cité de l’espace surrounded itself on this special day with experts, scientists, and leading personalities in the space sector. A platform was organized to welcome these personalities throughout the day for a special exchange with visitors. As always, the Cité de l’espace opened “unexpected” doors to space knowledge through experiments, mobile events, artistic performances and other happenings. The day finished on a spectacular note with the projection on Ariane 5 of the new mapping of the Cité de l’espace.

Thanks!
